Some things seem obvious, but aren’t true.
This looks like a beautiful head of flowers bursting into two radically different kinds of blooms, but isn’t. It’s also not a preposterous fake image. This is two plants.
The Antelope Horns Milkweed (Asclepias asperula) was growing there minding its own business when a fast-growing Fleabane (Erigeron sp.) shot up and got entangled in its developing flower head. The buds of the Antelope Horns Milkweed grew and widened and trapped the Fleabane where it was. When the Fleabane bloomed, this seemingly contrived “impossible” shot became possible, with no photo processing required. It’s neither a fake nor a single plant. It’s an improbable natural event captured in a camera image.
Amazing things are everywhere. Challenge yourself to find something “impossible” out there.
